MODEL TRX-16
16:1 Receive Antenna
Transformer
The AY Technologies TRX-16 Receive Antenna Transformer is
an optimized design for accurate impedance transformation, excellent antenna/feedline
isolation and rugged construction. The 16:1 impedance ratio is designed
specifically for Pennant, Flag, EWE, and other receive antennas with feedpoint
impedances in the 540-1600 ohm range (see specifications below).
Specifications
Impedance transformation: 16:1 (output vs. input impedance)
50 ohm feedline 800 ohm optimum load impedance;
540-1100 ohms with 1.5:1 VSWR
75 ohm feedline 1200 ohm optimum load impedance;
800-1600 ohms with 1.5:1 VSWR
Bandwidth: Optimized for 1.8-7.3 MHz, usable 1.5 MHz-15 MHz
Loss: 0.5 dB typical
Isolation: >40 dB typical at 1.8 MHz, 35 dB typical at 3.5 MHz
(50 ohm system)
Antenna connection: Red/Black color-coded binding posts
Coax connection: SO-239, with body connected to mounting flange
Surge protection: Gas tube spark gap, 75-volt breakover, 1 pF capacitance
Circuit Diagram
Instructions
For a typical Pennant or Flag installation, connect the antenna to the
Red and Black binding posts. For most effective surge protection, connect
the wires that are highest to the Red binding post. Connect either 50-ohm
or 75-ohm coaxial feedline to the SO-239 connector. For phased arrays,
180-degree phasing can be accomplished by exchanging the Red and Black
connections. Note that the mounting bracket must be grounded - the surge
protector will not function without grounding!
